How to shop for shoes

Posted in All about Mia, Clothes & Stuff on Aug 26, 2008

It’s true what they say, having a girl for a daughter is like having your own Barbie doll to dress up — only cuter. I never fully understood my girl friends’ excitement over my growing tummy when I was carrying Mia (and we knew that it was a girl). They kept gushing about how fun it would be to shop for clothes and all that.

Well, I was never a shoppaholic to begin with so I thought, what’s the big deal?

Oh yeah, and then I ate my own words. Found these months ago when I was in not-really-but-was-planning-to- anyway-so- what-the-heck shopping mode for Mia’s new shoes. Rustans Florsheim Kids made a sale from me, but I learned quite a few stuff too when it came to shopping for toddler shoes.

  • Make sure that the soles are made of rubber and not some slippery plastic material or cheap stuff that easily wears away. The rubber soles and the pretty stars were the sale clincher for me.
  • Pick either pink or a neutral color. If your baby is a girl, most probably her closet is entirely pink. Or if you’re the atypical parent who prefers a rainbow of colors for your kid, it’s easier to mix and match with neutral colored shoes.
  • Make sure it’s easy to wear. Try going to the mall with a fussy toddler and sample all the shoes you want. Whatever snaps on in 4 seconds flat is the winner. Velcro is the name of the game, baby.
  • Comfort is still number one especially for toddlers who are just learning to have fun running around. I’ve found some shoes that look so nice but are actually 5-pound weights in expensive leather disguise.
  • And lastly, I learned that shoes can be a bit on the pricey side, but there’s nothing like scoring all 4 things above in one pair of shoes and still made of good stuff — sugar and spice, and everything nice.

    Hi Ris!

Welcome to the world of kid shopping! :) I personally enjoy getting cute and pink stuff for my kid. Mostly, things I never got to wear when I was her age (since it wasn’t the fad then, hehe).

My sister got the same Florsheim shoes for my niece. They are worth the investment because they last for a really long time. Or at least until the shoe fits, as kids’ feet grow amazingly fast these days.

One tip though, never buy expensive brands at regular price. They always have kids stuff on sale, year-round. Before, I even got Florsheim rubber shoes for P200! Great deal, huh.

Anyways, just dropping by to check what’s new. And to thank you again for reminding me to revive my blogging passion a few months ago.

Take care and drop by my blog sometime. :)

    Cheers!

hi kcee! i know, we mostly buy stuff for our kids that we didn’t get to wear. hehe. sorry nalang sila! :)
really, and where are these year-round sales? :) kasi it’s rare that i chance on a sale at rustans. ok nga sana yun to get it at a lesser price. for the rest of Mia’s stuff naman, i always buy during sale either at SM or robinsons. same as the adult stuff, talagang yung shoes ang pinagiinvestan ko talaga. like you said, matagal kasi nagagamit at hindi masakit sa paa.

thanks for dropping by :) i try to be as updated as possible dahil super busy ngayon with work. promise i’ll try to catch up on your blog too :)
    take care!

    Hi Ris!

In Market! Market! Global City, they always have stuff at 30-50% at Kids of Bayo, Orange Juice, Big & Small, Oshkosh, Gingersnaps (sometimes, though still expensive), Gibi Store (where they have Florsheim shoes for kids) and inside the department store, they usually have a few styles on sale.

The uber sale I got before from the department store were boys’ rubber shoes and white leather shoes for P100 each! I got 10 pairs in an instant! lol People thought I was rich for buying 10 Florsheims in one go (thinking they cost around P800 up). hehehe

Another tip, most Chicco shoes on sale crack or peel off easily, so buy the regular-priced ones if you must. :)

at market! market! really? i didn’t know that.. sobrang bargain nun ha. ang sarap tuloy mag-shopping doon ngayon. hehe.

i still can’t believe that they would put florsheim on such a bargain price. P100? ayos talaga. and i’ve only bought Chicco once, at hindi naman leather and it really didn’t last long since ang bilis lumaki ng paa ni Mia. that’s why i’m hesitant to buy expensive shoes too.

but thanks for the tips kcee! :)
