Butterfly Haven

April 15th, 2008 Posted in Photoblogging, Ready jetset go!

I think I’ve developed a new kind of phobia — being scared that summer will soon be over and I have not made the most out of it. So being the proactive person that I am, I have taken advantage of free and/or long weekends to soak in as much sun and swim in as much water. And I think I’ve been imposing myself on Mia too.

Just about an hour and thirty minutes away from Manila, a butterfly haven is nestled in the heart of Pulilan, Bulacan in an unassuming old house. The place doubles as a wedding reception site, a resort, a tourist spot, and even movie/TV locations.

Butterflies are bred in separate netted areas, but there’s a small exhibit where you can see two aquariums with partying caterpillars. That’s because they’re eating as much greens as they can before they turn into these nice little (and not so little) butterflies.

Can you imagine something so gross can actually be something as beautiful?

But anyway for me, the main attraction is still the resort. There are 4 big nipa cottages and a nice, big 2-floor house that can be rented out. There is an open-air function hall at the center and one of the kiddie pools surrounds it like a moat.

Exclusive rental of the place for one day is just about P10k. Mura no? I think this is just for the resort and function hall. Usage of other facilities (cottages/house) can probably be negotiated. Not bad for a quick getaway, and it’s really near Manila too, via the North Luzon Expressway (Sta. Rita or Pulilan exits).

For day trips, entrance fee is P100 per head and cottage rental is at P1,500. You can bring your own food and cooking stuff without extra charges. Use of all butterfly pools and access to the exhibits and butterfly garden are also inclusive of the fees. There’s also a playground for kids here.

Imagine too, Sharon Cuneta’s Ikaw and Christian Bautista crooning one of those wedding love songs piped in as you walk through past setup tables and the cobble stone open portico. I just could not resist taking a photo of Mia there, even if it’s strongly against her will.

I like the place because it’s really accessible and pretty affordable. It’s also worth the pay since they maintain the place well. For more information, visit Pulilan Butterfly Haven’s site. (And click on the photos to take you to more photos!)

It’s is just me or what? Butterflies creeps the hella of me. When I was a kid, I used to believe that once you touched their delicate wings and accidentally wiped it off your eyes, you’ll go blind.

the first butterfly i ever went to was in puerto princesa. tapos when i learned pa about their brief life span… lalo akong natuwa sa paru-paro. mas konti pala ang panahon na maganda sila kaysa noong uod sila di ba? pero yung little time na maganda sila, they flaunt it hehe. gusto kong maging ganun kaya lang maganda naman ako lagi eh, haha!

great trip ris. di pa tapos ang summer, kaya go! :)
