quickie post no more
to vannie, tita nelli, meeya, woobie, mix, doc joy, and weng, and all those who prayed for mia’s health, thanks.
she’s actually doing better now, after 3 sleepless nights in the hospital, a bruised hand and 2 feet because of the failed attempts to insert an IV, 2 IMs (intramuscular injections or just your normal injection to sub for the antibiotics supposed to be given thru IV) to her arm and thigh, and 3 really bad hospital meals that i had to suffer through.
this is why i don’t like hospitals. the too-clean smell bothers me, the people milling about trying either to pass time waiting for a loved one to get better, or people anxious about a relative undergoing some sort of operation or other in another room. contrary to doc claire’s life-defining relationship with this institution, mine isn’t so much as a positive thing. you know there are 2 different ways of looking at a glass half-filled with water? (that it can also be half-empty; whichever is more negative you take your pick). it’s like that for me and hospitals.
for me it’s a place where people lose lives and leave other people missing out on so much. it’s a place where there is more sickness than any other place on the planet (except maybe in somalia or something). it’s the perfect place to get all emo and depressed (but so far i haven’t seen the lot of them anywhere inside). it’s somewhere that a person wearing a coat has the right to tell you that you only have a year to live. and it’s a place where you never have a grasp at your own fate; rather your leave it in the hands of other people you’ve only met a few minutes and who offer not even the slightest genuine assurance that things are ok.
i mean no offense to anyone. i guess it’s just the way i’ve experienced hospitals that makes it such a scary place for me. or maybe because this is the first time mia gets hospitalized since birth. all those memories of her in the incubator and my being helpless about her situation then seem to have overwhelmed me.
i’m just glad it’s over and i’m sleeping on my own bed tonight. mia looks happy about it too.
she’s still got the cough and a little of the dripping nose but i know she’ll be fine. thanks to everyone who prayed for her, i know she will.

Naku same here, whenever I receive a sms from my family that so en so or my elders are in a hospital, kahit ndi major, I get hysterical (insert: gastos na naman, hehehe).
I worked in a hospital long years back and it was the most disgusting place for me and at the same time, the most saddest place to stay even just for a day. Hayyyy.
I just wish no one gets sick again, including you.
Prayers.

haha i know the gastos is one of those things that make it worse. if only it wasn’t so expensive to have yourself get treated, maybe it would be more enjoyable for a lot of people.
i guess k, we’re just the type of happy people that cannot tolerate hospitals. so that would make doctors and nurses super human. hehe.

thank god mia’s better.
if hospitals are depressing there, lalo dito. at least diyan you have visitors, plus you can sleep in the room with the patient overnight. dito, everyone has to leave after visiting hours kaya kawawa ang patient, mas depressed, hehe. diyan sa pinas, pwedeng mag-piyesta sa ospital kahit papaano, at di ka mash-ssshhhhh ng mga nurse, hehe!
and i guess, it all depends on how you see it nga. for some, the hospital can be a place for hope – that once you leave the place, you’re cured of your illness and ready to face the world na anew.
