keeping me sane

Posted in What's it like to be me on Jan 28, 2008

i got a (really) flat tire this morning right when i was supposed to leave for work. it’s the 2nd time it happened to me in less than a year, so i’m wondering, do tires really hate me? anyway it’s a good thing it happened at home and not anywhere else because i do not know how to change a flat tire. tsk tsk.

my uncle gave me a lecture on being prepared always and that i should learn how to do it on my own because heaven forbid that it should happen to me elsewhere where people will skin you alive should you be an unfortunate lady who doesn’t know how to change a flat tire. ok, so i’m exaggerating. he has a point. but i know i can change a tire when need be or when there’s really no choice. really. i can always manage myself out of situations better than most people. it’s just that i’d rather get someone else to kneel on the hard cement road and get dirty than me. hehe. pero promise, kaya ko talaga yon.

and as if i’m not having a bad morning already, a tricycle driver cut me off when i was turning right at a corner. he was going the opposite direction and i obviously had the right of way. he had the nerve to give me an irritated look. these effin’ stupid drivers. if i were the head of LTO, i’ll be personally screening every applicant and i won’t care if it’s the only thing i do every day. i was about to raise hell inside the car when the next track on my stereo loads as if on cue…

“i asked her to stay, but she wouldn’t listen. she left before i had the chance to say… oooh”

my road rage disappeared into thin air and i was suddenly ok. God really knows just how to keep me intact.

on the contrary, tires hate me, too. :) i have let my car health run down horribly, and i’ve been running around manila with no spare tire… stupid, i know, for a woman who drives alone even at night.

driving really brings out the worst in all of us, but there are just some other driver who make life for us that much harder…

doc claire - that’s pretty dangerous nga. you really should get a spare tire :) ako i don’t want to take my chances anymore. ilang beses na din ako nasiraan sa kalye, and sobrang hassle talaga.

vannie - did you know my resolution this year was not to lose my temper anymore when i’m driving? guess what, i’m failing miserably. hehe. but im still trying :) btw, my comments aren’t making it in your blog. laging may error..

lilmiz - well, if you’re not required to drive, wag nalang. pero it’s also good to have driving skills for emergency purposes :)

uhywees! i attended a short seminar last year entitled “women with drive” aka empowering women on the road. it was sponsored by Goodyear Servitek. masaya siya and highly informative. :) i have their contact number, if you’re interested.
