mommy fears

October 18th, 2007 Posted in All about Mia, News & Novelties on the Web

newsbits

got my N70 back from the Nokia Center and cost me six hundred ten bucks of what was left of my already-diminished pay. tsk. but it’s working now so i can take pictures of mia and the road again. lesson learned: don’t leave your cell phone out on the beach with only a knitted little pouch to protect it from sand and water.

found neil gaiman’s journal on the web from one of the blogs i lurked in. brilliant, brilliant work i tell you. i love his style, his imagination, the worlds he create. in one of his blog posts, he talks about his story plots like they were live beings; they run around until what he started with end up differently. and this, my friend, is a fascinating take on best loved nursery rhymes.

slight problem

i have this ‘problem’ with mia, my little girl, who is growing cuter and more adorable by the day, but quite the feisty little girl she’s becoming.

i think i have the common working mother’s dilemma. 12 hours a day i spend away from mia so just about when she’s starting to recognize who the important people in her life are and i’m not there most of the time, i’m a bit worried. she still knows me, of course, but lately when i tell her to come to mommy, she’d rather amuse herself with other colorful little things, or if my mother is nearby she clamors for her instead.

(not that i wouldn’t want my mom to be close to her.) i just want mia to know that i’m still her mommy and mommy’s always welcome to get smiles and hugs and kisses from her. i’m worried that i might be away so much that she won’t come running to me when i get home.

tell me, am i having valid mommy fears or am i overreacting? i know none of child psychology stuff so i just don’t know how to deal with this. i’m hoping she (and i) grows out of it soon. or do you?

hi ris, its not OA at all, your concerns are very valid. i read the replies of the peeps in the forum and i have to agree with their suggestions. its difficult talaga to balance work and family, pero it can be done. :)

maybe you can also ask her caregiver to teach mia to recognize you as her mommy, like showing her a picture of you and then saying something like “that’s mommy!” or “where’s mommy” and have her point to the pic. also, make your leaving and coming home a big deal para she’ll always be excited to see you.

i think, some kids become distant from their parents because they don’t get real, quality time together. so no matter how short your bonding time is, as long as she feels secure that you are around her, she’ll eventually recognize you for who you are. in our case, its my hubby who had these similar fears (since he’s the one who’s outside of the home most of the time), pero now ninna’s just the veritable papa’s girl – daya no? :D

thanks for that meeya. i think i’ll tell my mom about it so she can teach mia which is oma (lola) and which is mommy :)

i’ll really have to make sure we do get that quality time. tomorrow nga mia and i are going to tagaytay with my friends. :)

I agree with Meeya, your concerns are not OA. Aside from the great suggestions she pointed out, try mo rin to think of activities you can do together that will make your bonding time special and unique para matatak talaga sa utak niya yung “time with mommy.”

When I’m with my daughter Jamaine, I make sure na marami kaming fun activities like “tickle fests,” “nursery rhyme concerts,” and “storybook fairs.” Though hindi niya pa naiintindihan yung mga songs and stories, naaliw siya kaya excited siya tuwing magkasama kami.

Your trip to Tagaytay is a great bonding time too. Have a happy weekend! :D
