munchpunch bohol

September 26th, 2007 | 5 Comments | Posted in Food, Ready jetset go!

came across this site from ate pao: www.munchpunch.com. astig! here at the office we actually have an Eating Club. :) comes really useful don’t it?

woohoo bohol! (tomorrow na). my mom said not to buy any more souvenirs. just peanut kisses. hehe.

actually, naloloka ako. tomorrow na kami aalis pero hanggang ngayon nagsu-surf pa din ako sa net ng places to stay. still thinking if we should opt to stay in Tagbilaran or Panglao. anyway, this is going to be an adventure.

see you monday!

if mia fell

Peppers - www.allposters.com

found a site that sells all sorts of posters online. ang cuuuute! lalo na yung mga vintage nila. this is now the stuff you’ll find on my desktop.

—–

a friend of mine is getting married in january (actually there are 2 of them) and has asked me to do their avps. i really don’t mind; i even volunteered for the job because the couple are my good friends. in times like these, i just can’t help but be nostalgic and a little sentimental over a lot of things.

theirs is actually a very nice story. it wasn’t exactly a fairy tale in the beginning, but it was in the end. so now i’m thinking how best to do justice to their love story. pressure! isipin ko nalang, kung ako ang nagpagawa ng avp sa friend ko, kung ano ang gusto kong makita at ma-feel pag pinanood ko yon.

sana magawa ko ng maayos dahil baka maiyak lang ako habang ginagawa ko yung avp. hehehe.

if mia fell (not the movie)

mia fell from the bed for the first time last saturday night. we were both asleep then, and a soft thump woke me up. para akong may spring sa likod dahil bigla akong napaupo. buti nalang she fell on the big pillow that actually should have prevented her from falling off the side of the bed. thing is, she was so likot that she probably kicked the pillow off the side. mia cried but not so much and she wasn’t really hurt, buti nalang.

note to self: tuck her in more safely next time. she can climb over pillows now (yey!) and leaving her on the bed even for brief periods of time can prove to be really risky now. especially that babies have no sense of depth yet at this age. she can also crawl under the bed, pero di siya marunong lumabas :)

we’ll be baby proofing the house pretty soon!

where do i find a ran online cd? do you get it for free?

try [nelly furtado]

September 23rd, 2007 | No Comments | Posted in Drama Queen moments, Music

Got this song stuck in my head for now. I’m heading off to Bohol in a couple of days and it couldn’t have come in more perfect timing…

——–

All I know
Is everything is not as it’s sold
but the more I grow the less I know
And I have lived so many lives
Though I’m not old
And the more I see, the less I grow
The fewer the seeds the more I sow
Then I see you standing there
Wanting more from me
And all I can do is try
Then I see you standing there
Wanting more from me
And all I can do is try
I wish I hadn’t seen all of the realness
And all the real people are really not real at all
The more I learn, the more I learn
The more I cry, the more I cry
As I say goodbye to the way of life
I thought I had designed for me

Then I see you standing there
Wanting more from me
And all I can do is try
Then I see you standing there
I’m all I’ll ever be
But all I can do is try
Try

All of the moments that already passed
We’ll try to go back and make them last
All of the things we want each other to be
We never will be
And that’s wonderful, and that’s life
And that’s you, baby
This is me, baby
And we are, we are, we are, we are
Free
In our love
We are free in our love

rainy days and wednesdays

September 19th, 2007 | 1 Comment | Posted in What's it like to be me

grabe i love my mom. she helped me pack my baon in a hurry, got 2 umbrellas at hinatid niya ako sa sasakyan na naka-park sa labas ng garahe. ako naman, parang zombie, kung saan dalin sunod lang. hehe. ganon lang naman talaga ako usually sa kanya, pero after reading ate pao’s post about her mom, na-realize ko i haven’t been spending enough time and effort to be nicer and more grateful to my mom.

so i texted her this morning, thanking her for letting me borrow the car :)

——

so while i was driving, there were 2 cars on both my sides that splashed a LOT of water onto my windshield, which of course made my heart jump out because i had to brake hard. kainis mga walang pakundangan. kaya nga dapat magbagal pag malakas ang ulan eh!

tapos nung naglalakad nako galing parking (na sobrang layo sa building namin), may 2 sasakyan nanaman na nagmamadaling nag-splash sa mga naglalakad sa sidewalk! argh. nakakainis talaga.

i like rainy days when i’m at home, safe and warm. other than that, i really don’t like it.

it’s a new day

                                                       my yahoo avatar

i just love my yahoo! avatar. been tinkering with this since monday because i’m so bored at the office. it really matches everything i do at home with mia. she usually flings around anything she finds in front of her if she’s not eating it (which includes non-food items).

My Visual DNA

this certainly got “me” right. got this from mariel. i’m a go-getter, a dreamer, a home soul, and a conqueror.

then i made 10 wishes…

 My 10 Wishes

 —-

i’m really suprised with how mia’s been showing her personality. ever since she could see, she would always be observant, just looking at things around her, usually following details of things that grown ups wouldn’t normally take heed of. then she would stare at them for a long time and she would amuse herself by looking around until she finds something interesting. like the curtains blown by the breeze or the metal rod that holds them up the window or the plastic flowers in a vase or the ceiling light in my parents’ bedroom.

on the other hand, she would also show her crazy side. for the last 2 nights, everytime i would prepare her to go to bed, she would laugh and squeal and kick around so much that my mom and i would just look at her like she was crazy. she just amuses herself so much that you just can’t help but laugh with her too. nakakatuwa talaga, she has this crazy/beautiful personality that perplexes me sometimes. and i wonder where she gets it.

well i guess her mom’s not so much of a normal person anyway, so that would make the 2 of them :)

know what, it’s not even worth it. some people are just clueless about the things that happen around them. why don’t you just ask him?

——–

i see you beside me
it’s only a dream
a vision of what used to be
the laughters my sorrows
pictures in time
fading to memories

how could i ever let you go
is it too late to let you know

i tried to run from your side
but each place i hide
it only reminds me of you
when i turned out all the lights
even the night
it only reminds me of you

i needed my freedom
thats what i thought
but i was a fool to believe
my heart cried while you cry
rivers of tears
but i was too blind to see

all that we’ve ever through before
now it needs so much more

i tried to run from your side
but each place i hide
it only reminds me of you
when i turned out all the lights
even the night
it only reminds me of you

so come back to me
i’m down on my knees
girl cant you see

how could i ever let you go
is it too late to let you know

damn pimple. half of my face has been bloated because of an itty bitty small pimple under my nose. it looked pretty harmless one day, and then threatened to make me uglier in the next. i didn’t even go to work yesterday because i was really feeling bad (because of my half-bloated face and because of other things). the meds my doctor cousin told me to take is taking its sweet time to do its job. hay.

anyway, back to a gloomy week.

Mia can be quite a handful already sometimes. Growing baby eh. I’m really happy she’s had so many little milestones, when I was really worried that she could be so much delayed in development. Mia is starting to throw things around when she’s on her high chair or walker.

 Mia on her walker

Well most of the time she’s just so adorable. And having a little girl to dress up is really fun :)

bonnet baby

But sometimes, the look on her face scares me. Parang mommy niya pag nagalit, siryoso. :) Kanino kaya nagmana to?? Hehe

Alone

“Mag-usap nga tayo dito.”

How can babies be so all-knowing!?? Sometimes I feel like she knows everything about me. hehe

Keeping the fire alive for Cris Anthony Mendez

September 3rd, 2007 | 4 Comments | Posted in Apathy kills

I know everyone’s been aware of Cris Mendez’ story — his being a rather painful one. I can only imagine the horrible things that his family has to go through knowing that he’s already gone.

I really don’t want to dwell on his death any more than a lot of people already has. It’s just too unnerving for me because I’m a mom myself. A mother’s pain is always the most agonizing one. To Mrs Mendez, I pray for your healing.

Instead, I want to lash out at the fraternities, “brotherhood” they call themselves, whose principles must be upheld by violence. To those who do not, then shut up; I am not after you. Why manhood must be proven by taking licks from your ‘brothers’ is just pointless.

You will soon understand when you boys grow up and enter the real world that can hurt you even more than your wooden paddles. It is not the physical strength that matters most; it’s actually your principles and character that hold you together. I have proven this when one of my closest friends told me,

kaya nga ako nabibilib sayo kasi you seem so strong…yung kahit nahihirapan ka na sobra, you still go on. and parang yun nga, your courage comes from elsewhere, yung fear hindi ganun kalaki kasi you know Someone is going to take care of you.

Is that the kind of strength you get from being initiated into a fraternity? My friends have stuck with me no matter the kind of crap I’ve been through, and no thanks to any kind of hazing that bound us together. My dear fratmen responsible for Cris Mendez’ life, show me one of you who can admit to the world the violence that you did and I will applaud you even for showing responsibility for your actions. Isn’t that what brotherhoods are all about, or are you just another typical clique?

Hindi na nadala ang UP. When I was a freshman, the University AS Walk was still fresh from Niño Calinao’s murder. Several frat-related violence in Diliman became some of the highlights throughout my stay there. And I’ve admired some fraternities who could make a positive difference in the campus. What now, that another name has been added to the roster of the murdered? Will these groups change? Will they realize that hazing isn’t so important in instilling whatever principles they uphold?

My fellow UP scholars, let’s keep Cris Anthony Mendez’ fire alive until due justice is given him, or at least his family.

thong reviews

September 2nd, 2007 | No Comments | Posted in Clothes & Stuff

I’m a thong person.

A thong sandal person, that is. (Silly, what were you thinking?) I just bought my first pair of Havaianas Flash Urban, in white. And yes, it really is my first. I’m not much of a branded person when it comes to tsinelas (except if it’s Nike, in which case i’m a fan). If some people collect them (Havaianas) like some do rubber shoes because you just gotta have more than two (other than for running or the gym and for porma, in which case again, I don’t get it), well I don’t.

I usually settle for what’s comfortable at the moment I’m trying them on, which is usually when I’m tired of walking around in the mall. This time I had to buy something for our Bohol trip this end-month. And mind you, I’m a hard to please person when it comes to sandals/slippers/tsinelas. The only pair of flip-flops that has passed my standards for the infamous mall-walking activity is my trusted Nike slippers. Malling (for hours) has never been my favorite activity but a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do.

So it happens also, that my family and I have been going around in the mall for an hour or so and there’s the recognizable aching feet again. Instead of putting off the buying 3 days before the trip, I decided to survey for candidates. Crocs had new styles out at Shoe Salon and at Rustan’s but are on the expensive side. If you don’t think so, be my guest and buy me one. Sure I’m a cheapskate, and I’m a size 6, by the way.

I really did like one of the new Crocs sandals. Maybe in December. Anyway, I also took a look at those from Reva but I didn’t think they’d look good on my feet because they were too bulky, as with the Crocs

Beach. Besides, Olympic Village didn’t have all of the styles and colors. There’s this other brand, Melissa by Grendene from

Brazil, which has been featured in a local tv show for being the perfect rainy day footwear because it’s so handy you can fold it, plus it’s actually comfortable “plastic”. Read Melissa’s review here. All of them are actually pretty cool.

So anyway, since I’m in a budget right now, I took my chances browsing through the Havaianas racks at Rustan’s. I figured this was my only shot at buying something actually nice-looking, comfortable, and versatile. I used to think Havaianas didn’t really make any difference from those you can buy in Greenhills. But man, when I tried out the Havainas Flash Urban, I immediately made up my mind. This is perfect for

Bohol and I’m not complaining about having to walk even more. For me to say that is like a rave review from a food critic. haha

So I guess I corrected my opinion about Havaianas to be just tsinelas. I’ll be reserving a rightful place on our shoe rack for this pair.
