#032 fiesta

December 15th, 2004 | 4 Comments | Posted in What's it like to be me

i stood in the middle of the plaza, awestruck at the hanging silver paper strips above our heads swaying to the beat of the breeze. the weather was perfect; the night was just the right temperature — not too cold, not too warm either. all the christmas lights and spotlights were poised to give a warm glow around the square. the program for the night was about to begin and the air was also filled with excitement.

i stood in the middle of the crowd, smiling at the perfection of it all. the cue of the voice over just as the wind rustled the banderitas, the people hushing as the AVP began, the anticipating applause as the main event began. i felt so lucky to be part of a town fiesta right that very moment.

yep it was the first time i went to one and it was fun. i have never really seen patriotism at its “production best”. this town really did have money to burn. how come we never have this kind of celebration in my town?

one and a half weeks, a headache, sun burned skin, an adobong tahong, 2 lunches spent inside a canter truck, and one town fiesta later, i’m still intact. i had fun, met a lot of people, have never sold so much stuff in my life, played with 2 great little kids, played mini-basketball with a good friend, and always went to bed dead tired. what more can i ask for?

next year, i’m living in batanggas. to my dear old friends, bisitahin nyo naman ako. i’ll have an apartment there. *yey*

#031 first time

December 5th, 2004 | 5 Comments | Posted in What's it like to be me

in all of my 22 sheltered years, i have learned one important lesson: there’s a first time for everything.

life is full of many firsts, we just don’t realize it most of the time. first teeth, first step, first crush, first dress (or suit for boys), first kiss, first exam, first horror teacher, first failing grade, first time to trip in front of everybody, first pair of really expensive shoes, first bestfriend, first date, first time to surf the internet, so on and so forth.

everyday is a fresh start. it’s always a start of a new beginning. it’s pretty redundant, i know. point is, there’s always a first time for everything. yun na yun.

so this is another first for me. it’ll be the first time for me to live away from home (it’s not that far, really), to spend more than 4 nights not sleeping in my own bed, to be not home for breakfast for more than 5 days, to live on my own, to do my own laundry (yes i admit, im a big crybaby), to really work for a living under the heat of the sun and in the harsh pollution, to finally act my age without my mother forcing me to.

in hindsight, this is going to be fun. \(”,)/
